South African Political Cartoon-
This political cartoon shows two young Afrikaner men, in their home. Johansen, sitting on the couch has just heard about more violence in Soweto, while Steyn is reading the newspaper about the Springboks (South African Rugby Team). Steyn is shown to ignore the news about Soweto and talks about the Springboks. Many Afrikaners thought more of the national rugby team than the country's social, economic and environmental issues. This is shown again with an elephant tusk on their mantlepiece, probably sold to them by poachers, which are most likely Afrikaners. They thought very little of the struggle of black South Africans. But when tensions grew old and both cultures united under Mandela, South Africa has become a rainbow nation, literally it is shown by their landscape, ethnicity and even their flag!
